UAE participates in MED Rome Dialogue 2024

ROME, 26th November, 2024 (WAM) -- The United Arab Emirates has begun its participation in the MED Rome Dialogue 2024, which is taking place in Rome, Italy, from 25th to 27th November.

The UAE is represented at the high-level event by Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, who has joined a distinguished group of leaders, policymakers, experts, and think tanks from across the Mediterranean region and beyond.

The 2024 MED Rome Dialogue, themed “Navigating Change: Cooperation for a Resilient Mediterranean,” is providing a platform for key international partners to discuss and address pressing regional challenges, including security, climate change, economic development, and migration.

The UAE’s participation in this key dialogue underscores its ongoing commitment to foster peace, stability, and sustainable development in the Mediterranean region, and beyond.

During the event, the UAE emphasised the country’s proactive role in advancing multilateral cooperation and constructive dialogue, calling for de-escalation after more than a year of the devastating war on Gaza, and growing conflicts and escalation in the Middle East.

Furthermore, the UAE stated it was critical that collective efforts are refocused to address the profound impact these crises are having on vulnerable populations, particularly children, women, and the elderly, who bear the brunt of these conflicts.

Al Hashimy further highlighted the urgency of protecting the region’s children, stating, “Every day of conflict, every escalation of violence, risks erasing the promise of a better tomorrow for the next generation and their future.”

She reiterated the UAE’s call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon alongside the urgent necessity of removing all barriers to the delivery of humanitarian aid in order to protect civilians.

The UAE’s participation in the dialogue aligns with its broader vision of strengthening regional and global partnerships, promoting multilateral solutions, and encouraging diplomatic initiatives and economic cooperation.

During the event, representatives from the UAE, including experts from think tanks and policy centers, will engage in panels and discussions focused on innovative approaches to regional security, environmental sustainability, and socio-economic development.

The UAE is committed to working with fellow participants to develop actionable strategies that will contribute to a more resilient and prosperous Mediterranean region, while also promoting global cooperation and sustainable development for the benefit of all.
