GMC 2024 discusses how AI can predict events, guide media

ABU DHABI, 27th November, 2024 (WAM) -- The second day of the Global Media Congress investigated the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in the media landscape with a dynamic panel discussion titled Foresight Media: How Can AI Predict Events and Guide Media? The session brought together thought leaders and industry experts to explore how AI-powered tools are revolutionising media strategies by predicting trends, shaping news coverage, and uncovering emerging issues.

Dr Mohammed Hamad Al Kuwaiti started the panel discussion by emphasising the impact of AI on enhancing cybersecurity and combatting misinformation in the UAE. He detailed how using AI-powered automated analysis can not only pinpoint cyberattacks, but also assist in developing predictive models to help organisations anticipate and manage risks more efficiently.

The group discussed Deep Fake technology extensively. They explored its impact on scams and ransomware, along with malicious activities using real life instances to reinforce their points of view. Everyone agreed that ‘data is the most expensive currency’. The members stressed the importance of implementing regulations and protocols to oversee AI technologies and highlighted the essential nature of promoting a culture of security awareness to counter new threats effectively and work towards countering the unethical use of AI.

Andrew Jackson emphasised that G42 has committed to upholding the AI safety guidelines laid out in the Seoul Declaration for Safe, Innovative, and Inclusive AI. As part of this pledge the company assures that its AI models will not be equipped with cyber functions or biological uses, or persuasive features designed to influence or manipulate people’s decisions or opinions.
To maintain the integrity of content produced through their tools, be it voice, text or video, G42 guarantees the presence of a watermark to confirm its origin as a G42 product and to prevent any misrepresentations.

He emphasised the significance of cooperation between the private and public sectors in creating solutions to tackle the issue of Deep Fake technology and highlighted the critical nature of combined endeavours to confront this escalating problem.
The conversation ended with panellists emphasising that the balance between innovation and security is paramount, and fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration will be key to leveraging AI’s potential while safeguarding public interests.
