UAE participates in 80th anniversary celebration of ICAO

CHICAGO, 11th December, 2024 (WAM) -- The United Arab Emirates participated in the 80th-anniversary celebration of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), held in Chicago, US, with high-level international attendance and the participation of representatives from the organisation's member states.

The celebration highlighted the vital role played by ICAO in developing the global civil aviation sector and strengthening cooperation between member states.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), said that this occasion represented an important opportunity to review ICAO's achievements and its efforts in enhancing cooperation between member states to establish a safe and sustainable international civil aviation system, stressing the UAE's commitment to supporting all the organisation's initiatives aimed at enhancing the sector's ability to continue its growth and development.

Al Suwaidi affirmed that the UAE, through its leading role within its membership in ICAO, is keen to contribute to advancing all international efforts to address the future challenges of the civil aviation sector, including reducing carbon emissions, improving operational efficiency, and supporting technological innovation.

The UAE delegation participating in the celebration was headed by Engineer Saeed Al Suwaidi, the UAE's Permanent Representative to ICAO, who delivered a speech in which he affirmed the UAE's continued commitment to supporting the organisation's goals and contributing to achieving sustainable and safe development of the civil aviation sector.

He pointed to the achievements made by the country in this field, including the development of airports, the improvement of safety and security standards, and the promotion of international cooperation.

The UAE expressed its appreciation for the role of the International Civil Aviation Organization in enhancing air safety and coordination between member states to achieve integration and innovation in this vital sector, stressing the importance of continuing international cooperation to face future challenges.
