Abu Dhabi City Municipality organises winter festival

ABU DHABI, 30th January, 2025 (WAM) -- In its ongoing efforts to enhance community engagement and provide diverse recreational experiences, Abu Dhabi City Municipality has organised the Winter Festival across Abu Dhabi and its suburbs.

This initiative reflects the Municipality’s commitment to utilising public spaces for the enjoyment of residents, offering a vibrant programme of activities that foster social connections and provide opportunities for learning and entertainment.

The festival featured a variety of workshops aimed at children and young people, focusing on sustainability, nurturing local talents, and supporting productive families. These activities promoted educational and environmental awareness in a dynamic and engaging atmosphere.

In Mohammed Bin Zayed City, the festival took place from 5th-14th January, 2025, at the city square, hosted by the Municipal Community Centre. It aimed to strengthen social bonds and create an enriching environment for all age groups while raising awareness of sustainability and social responsibility. A key highlight was the provision of 15 kiosks for productive families to showcase and sell their products at affordable prices, supporting small businesses.

The event was organised in collaboration with key partners, including Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, which provided logistical support and a K9 demonstration; NMC Royal Hospital, which offered medical services; and Agthia, which distributed free Al Ain water to attendees. Visitors enjoyed a range of activities, including children’s entertainment, sustainability workshops, handicraft demonstrations, a poetry evening, musical performances, community markets, food trucks, and Discover Abu Dhabi’s Sky.

Similarly, the Shahama Municipal Centre hosted its Winter Festival from 16th-25th January, 2025, at Al Rahba Square, with a focus on promoting physical activity, public health, and environmental sustainability.

The event featured creative workshops, artistic performances, and educational sessions on safety procedures during crises and maintaining cleanliness in public spaces. Participants were encouraged to adopt sustainable behaviours.

The festival was organised in partnership with KEZAD Group, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, and the National Centre of Meteorology. Families enjoyed various attractions, including food and game zones, while the main stage hosted public awareness sessions on topics such as pet care and health education.

In Al Riyadh City, the Municipal Community Centre held its festival from 3rd-12th January, 2025, at Al Bairaq Park in Al Shamkha. The event emphasised the importance of community participation in Abu Dhabi’s development, providing a platform to showcase local talents and support productive families, with 10 kiosks dedicated to displaying their goods.

Visitors engaged in entertainment, educational workshops, and interactive sessions, while strategic partners, including Abu Dhabi Police, the Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Civil Defence Authority, contributed to the event with unique features such as a virtual reality showcase and interactive performances.

The Baniyas Winter Festival, organised by the Municipal Community Centre, took place from 27th January-2nd February, 2025, at Al Shamkha Square, offering a vibrant winter setting with recreational and entrepreneurial opportunities. Visitors of all ages enjoyed interactive workshops, educational lectures, and entertaining segments, including talking bird shows, kite-flying activities, a Baloot competition, and art and agriculture workshops.

These festivals reflect the Municipality’s dedication to creating meaningful and enjoyable experiences for the community. By blending recreation with education and promoting sustainability, the Winter Festival successfully enriched the lives of residents while fostering a sense of unity and collaboration across Abu Dhabi and its suburbs.
