Latvian official highlights culture’s role in fostering understanding between nations

ABU DHABI, 29th April, 2025 (WAM) -- Baiba Murniece, Deputy State Secretary at Latvia's Ministry of Culture, underlined the role of culture in fostering peace and mutual understanding, saying it can “help us to build peace, build bridges not walls.”

Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the Culture Summit Abu Dhabi, Murniece highlighted Latvia’s chairmanship of the MONDIACULT consultations for Eastern European countries, where the link between culture and peace was a central theme.

She also participated in a summit session exploring how cultural cooperation and shared understanding can drive peace and enrich cultural initiatives globally.

Murniece thanked the UAE for hosting the summit, calling it a key platform for dialogue among policymakers, creatives, and cultural leaders. She praised the UAE’s cultural development, especially in Abu Dhabi, as a hub for innovation in the sector.
