EU urges India, Pakistan to engage in dialogue

BRUSSELS, 8th May, 2025 (WAM) -- The European Union (EU) and its 27 Member States unequivocally condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which occurred on 22nd April and resulted in the murder of innocent civilians.

In a statement, the EU reaffirmed that terrorism can never be justified under any circumstances and stressed that those responsible for the attack must be brought to justice. It underlined that every state has both the duty and the right to lawfully protect its citizens from acts of terror.

The statement said that the EU is monitoring closely and with great concern the growing tensions in the region and the ensuing consequences, including the possible loss of more lives.

The European Union called on both parties to exercise restraint, to de-escalate tensions and desist from further attacks to safeguard civilian lives on both sides.

The EU urged India and Pakistan to engage in dialogue, emphasising the importance of fulfilling their obligations under international law and taking all necessary measures to protect civilian lives.

The European Union confirmed its commitment to work with all parties to support efforts aimed at de-escalating the situation.
