13 people killed, 12 injured in road accident in India

NEW DELHI, 12th May, 2025 (WAM) -- Thirteen persons, including nine women and four children, died in India’s Raipur district when a truck carrying passengers collided with a trailer, Raipur Assistant Superintendent of Police, Kiran Rathore, announced.

Twelve others were injured in one of Raipur’s worst road mishaps.

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed deep grief over the loss of lives.

He sanctioned relief payments of Indian rupees 200,000 (US$2,350) to next of kin of those killed from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. He also gave rupees 50,000 (US$590) to those injured.

“Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a road accident in Raipur,” Modi said in a post on his verified official handle of X, formerly Twitter.

“Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” Modi said.
