BAGHDAD, 17th May, 2025 (WAM) – Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Saturday reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause remains the central issue for the Arab League.
Aboul Gheit said during a speech he delivered at the 34th Arab Summit, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The Palestinian cause continues to be the foremost issue for the Arab world and the Arab League. Attempts by the extremist Zionist right wing to dominate Palestinian lands and commit acts of genocide against its people are a stain on the conscience of the international community.”
He warned that the expansionist agenda pursued by the Zionist entity under the pretext of security in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon would plunge the region into a protracted cycle of confrontation.
Aboul Gheit also expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts by Egypt and Qatar aimed to ceasefire in Gaza, and acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s efforts to convene a peace conference in New York next month.
He noted that “Arab security remains elusive due to the scale of foreign interference affecting the region.”
Highlighting ongoing regional challenges, Aboul Gheit stated that Lebanon continues to struggle under sustained Zionist aggression, while Syria faces major obstacles in reconstruction efforts.
He concluded by expressing confidence in the collective ability of Arab nations to overcome these crises and restore stability and security across the region.
