SAINT PETERSBURG, 19th May, 2025 (WAM) -- Spring unfolded in vivid colour this weekend as the 13th Tulip Festival officially opened on Yelagin Island in Saint Petersburg, welcoming visitors to a dazzling display of more than 250,000 blooming tulips, according to Viory.
Footage from Kirov Central Park captured scenes of guests strolling through vibrant flowerbeds, capturing photos, and enjoying live music performed by a military band, adding a festive rhythm to the atmosphere.
This year’s edition highlights two symbolic tulip varieties: the deep red “Muzhestvo” (Courage) and the golden-yellow “Zolotye Rossypi” (Golden Abundance), chosen for their cultural and aesthetic significance.
The festival will take place over four consecutive weekends, with peak bloom anticipated on 17th and 18th May. These dates coincide with the 300th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Yelagin — the island’s namesake — remembered as a poet, philosopher, and statesman.
The final weekend, 24th and 25th May, will honour Italian-born architect Carlo di Giovanni Rossi, credited with transforming Yelagin Island into the palace and park ensemble admired today.
