ABU DHABI, 21st May, 2025 (WAM) -- The DOCKTOUR project, a joint venture (JV) between AD Ports Group and Burjeel Holdings, was unveiled at the “Make it in the Emirates” as an innovative solution to deliver healthcare to remote regions in Africa by converting shipping containers into mobile medical units.
Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings, told the Emirates News Agency (WAM), that the initiative addresses logistical challenges in reaching underserved communities, especially in areas where the UAE implements major humanitarian projects.
The mobile hospitals aim to improve healthcare access in remote and crisis-affected regions, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, while supporting local economies by creating jobs for local talent.
Vayalil described DOCKTOUR as a pioneering model in healthcare delivery and praised the “Make it in the Emirates” platform for fostering innovation and local value.
He also highlighted Burjeel’s progress in pharmaceutical manufacturing, including its expansion into advanced immunotherapy with CAR T-cell technology for cancer treatment.
Imran Khoury, Board Member at Burjeel Holdings, expressed pride in the group’s contribution to the UAE’s industrial sector. He emphasised the symbolic significance of Emirati-made medical containers operating offshore and reaffirmed the group’s commitment to expanding healthcare services across Africa, including North Africa.
Khoury noted the partnership with AD Ports Group, under ADNOC’s umbrella, as a strategic move to enhance mobile healthcare services. He said the collaboration exemplifies an advanced model of integration between the healthcare and logistics sectors, reinforcing the UAE’s global position as a hub for innovation in humanitarian and development services.
