ABU DHABI, 21st May, 2025 (WAM) -- The Young Arab Media Leaders programme held a dialogue session on Tuesday to discuss the future of media and the increasing impact of artificial intelligence (AI) amid ongoing technological transformation.
Mohamed Al Hammadi, Acting Director-General of the Emirates News Agency (WAM), spoke during the session, stressing that although AI is advancing rapidly, it cannot replace journalists. Instead, it acts as a tool that enhances efficiency and contributes to reshaping the media landscape.
Al Hammadi stressed that those who do not master artificial intelligence tools today may struggle to find a place in the newsrooms of the future, while those who use them without professional awareness risk losing direction.
He highlighted the challenges facing the Arabic language in today’s digital landscape, explaining that its decline in online content is not solely driven by technological developments or the ease of producing superficial content, but also stems from a diminishing sense of value. He urged that Arabic be embraced as a vital part of cultural identity, beyond its functional role.
Following the session, participants joined a training workshop led by the IMI Media Academy, designed to build core professional competencies vital to media leadership.
