CAIRO, 21st May 2025 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, met with His Holiness Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church, at the Papal Residence in the Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Cairo’s Abbassia district.
During the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed underscored the importance of promoting religious tolerance and human coexistence among the peoples of the world.
He emphasised the role of religious institutions in reinforcing the values of fraternity among followers of all Abrahamic faiths.
H.H. Sheikh Mohammed referenced the Document on Human Fraternity, signed in the UAE in 2019 byHis Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, and His Holiness Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church, as a model for interfaith dialogue, peace, coexistence, and human fraternity.
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria shared insights into the history of the Coptic Orthodox Church. He noted that Alexandria was the first city in Africa to embrace Christianity.
Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria stressed that the Coptic Church is a national institution that serves the community through a wide range of initiatives, particularly in education, including the establishment of schools to instill values of peace, goodwill, and compassion.
Sheikh Mohammed also visited the Boutroseya Church and the Saint Mark's Cathedral, where he received a detailed explanation of their historical significance, architectural features, and key events associated with both sites.
Several officials accompanied the Crown Prince of Fujairah during the visit.
