ABUJA, 31st May, 2025 (WAM) – More than 150 people have died in Nigeria and over 3000 displaced due to floods that hit the town of Mokwa in the centre of the country.
Search and rescue teams have been deployed to look for bodies or missing persons. Local authorities told media that 121 people were injured and dozens are still missing.
The floods destroyed 250 homes and swept away two bridges.
Mokwa experienced heavy rainfall from late Wednesday until Thursday morning, submerging roads in the town, which is located more than 350 kilometres from the capital, Abuja.
