DUBAI, 22nd August, 2026 (WAM) -- The International Centre for Combating Media Disinformation (ICCMD) has announced the development of an advanced technology system for monitoring and analysing digital content, alongside the launch of the International Charter for Media Integrity and Combating Misinformation.
The announcement was made during the first meeting of the Centre’s Board of Directors, held remotely under the chairmanship of Issa Al Shaiji, Chairman of the Board, which includes a distinguished group of Arab media leaders who hold senior positions in prominent media and journalistic institutions and association.
The system aims to build advanced technical and professional capabilities for monitoring and analysing digital media content, including keywords, topics and media narratives, as well as examining content dissemination patterns, trends and indicators, and supporting data analysis through the use of artificial intelligence technologies and professional expertise.
In parallel with its technological track, the Centre launched the International Charter for Media Integrity and Combating Misinformation, aimed at establishing an international network bringing together media organisations, professional bodies, academic institutions and research organisations around common principles and standards for media integrity, verification and professional responsibility.
Issa Al Shaiji, Chairman of the Board, said the launch of the International Charter represents an important step towards building cross-border professional cooperation and bringing institutions and media professionals together around shared principles of media integrity and responsibility.
Al Shaiji added that combating media misinformation requires the integration of expertise and partnerships among media, professional and academic institutions, alongside investment in modern technologies and tools capable of monitoring and analysing patterns of content and misinformation and addressing them professionally.
For his part, Sultan Al Hosani, Secretary-General of the Centre, presented an overview of the Centre’s operational and technological vision, highlighting an integrated digital system currently under development to support media and digital content monitoring, analysis and verification.
The system’s capabilities include real-time monitoring, analysis of keywords, topics and media narratives, examination of content dissemination patterns, trends and indicators, support for verification and data analysis, and the use of artificial intelligence technologies to enhance the efficiency of monitoring and analytical operations.
Fadila Al Muaini, Chairperson of the UAE Journalists Association, said combating media misinformation is no longer the sole responsibility of media organisations, but requires an integrated system bringing together technology, professional awareness and international cooperation.
“We believe that professional and credible media is the first line of defence against misinformation, and that the GCC countries, with their expertise and media institutions, are well positioned to contribute effectively to shaping a more integrity-driven future for the media and digital landscape,” she added.
