SEOUL, 23rd August, 2026 (WAM) -- A magnitude 3.1 earthquake struck off the south-western coast of the brotherly Republic of Korea on Sunday.
The earthquake was detected 21 kilometres west of Haenam County in the south-west of the country at 06:43 local time.
State-run Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power said all nuclear power plants in the country were operating normally and had not been affected by the earthquake, adding that seismic readings at all nuclear facilities remained below the minimum threshold required to trigger an alert.
The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission also said no safety-related issues had been detected at any nuclear reactor facilities, according to the Korean Yonhap News Agency.
