SEWA enhances water security system in Khorfakkan

SHARJAH, 23rd August, 2026 (WAM) -- As part of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) plans to enhance the water security system and improve the efficiency and sustainability of the water networks in Khorfakkan, the authority is continuing the implementation of a project to construct two new reservoirs at the SEWA 1 and SEWA 2 stations, with a storage capacity of 2 million gallons each, at a total cost of AED28.23 million.

Eng. Saud Abdul Aziz, Director of the Khorfakkan Department at SEWA, explained that the project aims to support the water storage and distribution system, and will contribute to doubling the storage capacity at the two stations, enhancing the network's flexibility and increasing its ability to meet growing demand, thus supporting the continuity and efficiency of water supplies under all circumstances.

Eng. Abdul Aziz stressed that the Authority is intensifying its efforts to complete the project, as the two reservoirs are expected to be put into service by the end of 2026, before the scheduled contractual delivery date in March 2027, so that the project will form an important tributary to the water system in the city of Khorfakkan, and support the Authority’s continuous plans to develop the infrastructure and raise its operational efficiency.
