LONDON, 23rd August, 2026 (WAM) -- Manchester City opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, securing late points in Matchweek 1.
The visitors took an early lead through Marcus Tavernier in the 25th minute, holding off Manchester City until late in the second half. Marc Guéhi leveled the match in the 83rd minute before Joško Gvardiol sealed the victory for the hosts with an injury-time strike in the 90+1st minute.
In other Sunday Premier League action, Brighton & Hove Albion secured a dominant 4-0 home victory against Aston Villa at the American Express Stadium. Brighton led 4-0 by half-time following an own goal by Victor Lindelöf (7'), a strike from Maxim De Cuyper (17'), and a double from Jack Hinshelwood (29', 30').
