TAKREER begins implementation of Green Diesel project

Abu Dhabi, Mar. 10, 2006 (WAM) -- The Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (TAKREER) has launched its Green Diesel project by starting at its Abu Dhabi and Ruwais refineries the production of ultra low-sulphur gas oil with minimum 10 ppmw sulphur component, according to the latest international specifications to meet the future demand, beginning from the year 2010.

In a statement to WAM, TAKREER said the project was based on UAE national plans and policies to provide a clean environment and to achieve a better quality of air by providing quality and environment- friendly products. This, it added, needs the introduction of modern technologies in the production of diesel products with low sulphur components.

The project includes the installation of a new mild Hydrocracker unit at the Ruwais Refinery with a capacity 41,000 bpsd along with a new Gas Oil Hydrotreating Unit with a capacity of 44,000 bpsd, revamping of existing Gas Oil Hydrotreating Unit of the Abu Dhabi Refinery, construction of a new Control Building at the Ruwais Refinery, integration within the existing refinery infrastructure for optimum operation and control of associated facilities.

Worly Parsons has been appointed as the Project Management Consultant (PMC). The pre-FEED works have also been completed, licensor packages have been awarded and work is currently in progress. While the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract had been awarded to the Wood Group International (Mustang), USA, the FEED activity is expected to be completed by the 4th quarter of 2006.

The EPC activities, which are likely to start in the first quarter of 2007, are envisaged to be completed by the first quarter of 2010.
