UAE RCS to fund AED 21 million housing projects in Gaza, West Bank

Amman, Dec. 13th, 2006 (WAM)---The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) signed today two agreements with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) whereby UAE RCS will fund two construction projects in Gaza Strip and West Bank.

According to the first agreement, UAE RCS pledges AED 8 million to fund re-building and restoring operations of over 200 houses in Beit Hanoun. Those houses were demolished and/or destructed by Israeli forces during the recent Israeli incursions.

One hundred houses in West Bank will be rebuilt by UAE RCS according to the second agreement with a total cost of AE 13 million.

The two agreements were signed by Abdullah Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Director of Projects and Development at UAE RCS , Peter Ford Senior Regional Representative of UNRWA, and Jens Toyberg-Frandzen UNDP/PAPP's Special Representative.
