Sharjah Ruler approves Central Region structure plan
WAM SHARJAH, Jan 18th, 2010: His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah today at this office viewed the structure plan drawn up for the development of the Central Region.

Present were H.H Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al-Qassimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Executive Council.

The plan covers three Central Region cities: Al-Dhaid, Mleiha and Al-Madam.

Sheikh Sultan approved the study which was conducted over the past two years by the Planning and Survey Department in collaboration with a world-class specialized company and the relevant municipal and governmental authorities.

Sheikh Sultan's directives were that the plan provides quality of life, prosperity and job opportunities for the residents of the three said cities.

The study identifies heights of buildings, usage of lands, width of highways, public works and infrastructure over the next 25 years.

Sheikh Sultan ordered modifications to the plan to elevate its performance.

Among these are the ring road in Al-Dhaid, the proposed location of the commercial area of the city as well as the development of the central services area whereby the modern area would be linked with the old area (AKA Al-Sharia') and integrated with the old and new downtowns Sheikh Sultan also granted old photos and plans for the study in order to facilitate the development and restoration of the old Al-Dhaid city.

He also instructed preparation of a map for heritage areas in the three cities, emphasizing that the development of Al-Badayer area and the construction of bridges should be speeded up to provide tourists with the best services. 90% of the bridges have been implemented.

He also underscored the use of the latest agricultural technologies to conserve natural and water resources.

Other directives by Sheikh Sultan call all governmental departments and administrative authorities to implement the said projects according to the plans which he said should be periodically updated.

Details of the project were given during the meeting by Engineer Salah Bin Butti, Director General of Planning and Survey Department.
