ABU DHABI, 23rd March, 2015 (WAM) -- Abu Dhabi Occupational Safety and Health Centre, OSHAD, has announced the launch of a media and awareness campaign to introduce ‘Qudorat’, a national programme for the qualification and competency development of entities and individuals working in the Occupational Health and Safety, OSH, field across Abu Dhabi.
Through this awareness campaign, OSHAD aims to increase the number of OSH practitioners from 520 to 1,500 over the next 2 years, as well as encouraging all practitioners to register and obtain a qualification that guarantees their compliance with Abu Dhabi’s safety and health management system requirements, ensuring OSH practitioners are qualified to operate in their roles.
OSHAD placed a wide advertising campaign to reach out to various governmental and private entities, aiming to increase community awareness on the importance of Abu Dhabi’s OSH system. Through the campaign, OSHAD seeks to connect with relevant educational institutions by sending awareness emails that highlight the benefits of the programme for relevant entities and individuals, in addition to organising workshops and mobile platforms that will ease the registration process in Qudorat.
The advertising campaign will also include distributing posters, leaflets, brochures and advertisement spaces in the leading newspapers across the UAE.
Under the direction of the Abu Dhabi Occupational, Health and Safety Higher Committee, and in line with international best practices, Qudorat was established to comprehensively assess the qualifications and competence of any individual or professional entity operating in OSH roles. The programme also aims to limit OSH roles to qualified individuals and entities.
A statement released by OSHAD stated that Qudorat will successfully contribute to enhancing the application of the general framework of the Emirate’s OSH requirements, through providing qualified staff capable of applying relevant disciplines. The programme will also provide job opportunities and raise the efficiency of employees through specialised training institutions.
Indicators have already showed the increase in OSH awareness, and 1,000 phone calls and approximately 500 emails have been received inquiring about Qudorat. Additionally, there has been an increase in the number of new visitors to the official programme website with over 700 visitors to date.
The goals of OSH programmes include fostering a safe and healthy work environment for people engaged in work or employment, in addition to assessing their needs in a way that ensures the safety of all those operating in the field.
