Mohamed bin Zayed receives Khalifa Haftar

ABU DHABI, 10th April, 2017 (WAM) -- His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, today received, at the Qasr Al Bahr Palace, Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar, Commander in Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, who is currently visiting the country.

His Highness welcomed Field Marshal Haftar and they discussed the means of strengthening and developing the fraternal relations between the two countries. The bilateral co-operation, regional and international issues, and current developments in the region were demonstrated during the meeting, especially the joint efforts and co-ordination between both countries in fighting extremism, violence and terrorist organisations, and their efforts to establish the foundations of regional security and stability.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed his appreciation for the role played by the Libyan National Army and Field Marshal Haftar in fighting terrorism and organisations that use Libya’s political circumstances to spread terrorism.

His Highness added that these efforts have primarily contributed to reducing this danger, and create the required political environment to reach a solution that includes all Libyans within a unified nation.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stated that the UAE’s commitment to support the stability of Libya comes from its Arab and Islamic loyalty, and its awareness of the connection between the stability of the region’s countries.

His Highness added that security and stability are the essential cornerstones for building and development, and the UAE will spend all its efforts towards unifying Libyans and supporting their efforts in fighting extremism and terrorism, the disease that affects the entire region. His Highness called for the unification of Libyans and for the use of its national advantages in this critical stage.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC; H.H. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler`s Representative in the Eastern Region; H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan; H.H. Sheikh Surour bin Mohammed Al Nahyan; H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation; H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court; H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Executive Council Member, and a number of sheikhs and high officials.
