Abu Dhabi's trade in aluminium nears AED2.6 bn in seven months

ABU DHABI, 27th September, 2018 (WAM) -- The Abu Dhabi trade in aluminum amounted to around AED2.6 billion during the first seven months of 2018, corroborating the prestigious position enjoyed by the emirate in particular and the country in general across this industry.

According to the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD), the emirate's trade in the metal represents around 2.6 percent of its total non-oil trade during the period from January until the end of July 2018, which is totaled at AED94.1 bn.

The emirate trade in aluminium doubled in 2017, surging to AED5.4 billion according to SCAD statistics, with the merger of the two flagship state aluminum firms, Emirates Aluminium (Emal) and Dubai Aluminium (Dubal), making the new firm the world's fifth largest producer of the metal.

During the first seven months of the year, the emirate exported around AED2.1 billion in aluminum in addition to re-exports of AED160 million and AED458 worth of imports.
