AEEDC Dubai hosts 16th Global Scientific Dental Alliance meeting
DUBAI, 6th February, 2019 (WAM) -- The second day of the UAE International Conference and Arab Dental Exhibition – AEEDC Dubai, was held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, DICEC, where the 16th Global Scientific Dental Alliance Meeting, GSDA, was launched.
Some 157-member representatives from across the globe participated in the event.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman of GSDA and AEEDC Dubai; and attended by Dr. Nasser Al Malik, Chairman, Scientific Committee of AEEDC Dubai; Dr. Mohammad Abedin, Scientific Vice Chairman of AEEDC Dubai; Anas Al Madani, Vice Chairman and Group CEO of INDEX Holding; and several leading dignitaries, heads of dental associations, world-renowned dentists and deans of dental colleges and universities from the UAE and abroad.
Dr. Abdul Al Madani said, "As part of our efforts to promote dental health education and oral related programmes in the region, I am proud to witness the 16th Global Scientific Dental Alliance Meeting, which is one of the most important annual gatherings for the world’s leading dental associations, societies, organisations, leading decision makers and members of the global dental fraternity. With so many advances taking place in the world of dentistry, we believe an alliance such as the GSDA is crucial to address the challenges facing dentists while also giving us a platform to seek recommendations and learn from the vast experiences of world dental bodies and associations."
A cooperation agreement was signed between AEEDC Dubai and FDI World Dental Federation in the presence of Dr. Al Madani, and Dr. Kathryn Kell, President of FDI World Dental Federation. The cooperation agreement will enhance the strategic partnerships between AEEDC Dubai and FDI World Dental Federation, raise awareness about the latest advances in dentistry, improve the standards of dental education, as well as support oral health promotion activities in the UAE and abroad.
Dr. Kell noted, "This cooperation agreement gives AEEDC Dubai and FDI World Dental Federation a mutually beneficial opportunity to continue their successful cooperation and advance the shared goals of prioritising continuing medical education We believe platforms such as AEEDC Dubai are essential to highlight the latest advances and technologies in the oral health field, raise the profile of oral health, develop appropriate solutions to solve the global burden of oral disease and bolster the science and practice of dentistry."
Mentioning a few figures related to oral diseases on public health, Dr. Kell added, "Oral diseases affect at least 3.58 billion people worldwide, with caries of the permanent teeth being the most prevalent of all conditions assessed. Globally, it is estimated that 2.4 billion people suffer from caries of permanent teeth, and 486 million children suffer from caries of primary teeth. It constitutes a major public health challenge, and to overcome it, a unified effort from all stakeholders, including regional entities such as AEEDC Dubai is paramount."
Later, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between AEEDC Dubai and Saudi Orthodontics Society.
During the meeting, the launch of the first edition of the AEEDC Cairo Conference and Exhibition, to be held from 12th to 14th December, 2019, at Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski Cairo, was announced.
The AEEDC Student competition 2019 concluded on the second day of AEEDC Dubai, where students competed to win the coveted AEEDC Knowledge Champion 2019 title.
