Hatta Women's Kayak Challenge to support 'teacHER' campaign

DUBAI, 16th April, 2019 (WAM) -- The Dubai Sports Council Women's Sports Committee has announced the 'Hatta Women's Kayak Challenge', a new sports initiative to support women's education.

The event, taking place on 27th April, is sponsored by Hatta Kayak and the proceeds will go to Al Manal Humanitarian Initiative’s 'teacHER' campaign, dedicated to supporting women's education in Asia and Africa.

The kayak challenge is open to women of all abilities and nationalities, aged 15 and above. Participants will be divided into two age categories – 15 to 29, and 29 and above – and they can choose from two race distances, 700 metres and 1.2 kilometres in the Hatta Dam waters.

Speaking on the announcement, Lamia Abdulaziz Khan, a member of DSC’s Board of Directors and President of the Women’s Sports Committee, said, "The city of Hatta has been a point of focus for the Council since 2009 and we have organised several sports events there. Now, we are really happy to organise this first ever kayak challenge exclusive to women in Hatta."

As for supporting the ‘teacHER’ campaign, which has already opened schools in Ethiopia and Senegal, the Women's Sports Committee president said, "The ‘teacHER’ campaign is a reflection of the humanitarian efforts of H.H. Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and her dedication to empowering girls through education in order to enhance their contribution to economic and social development."
