ABU DHABI, 20th January, 2022 (WAM) -- The Speaker for the Federal National Council (FNC), Saqr Ghobash, held talks with Professor Dr. Mustafa Şentop, President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, and his accompanying delegation, currently visiting the UAE, upon an invitation from the FNC.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted the importance of boosting parliamentary ties in alignment with the development in the relations between the two nations, and in light of the determination of their leadership to advance cooperation across multiple fronts.
They also discussed the ongoing friendship ties between their parliaments and the prospects of strengthening their coordination, promoting consultation, exchanging views on issues of mutual concern, encouraging communication between the two countries, exchanging visits and parliamentary events, and holding bilateral parliamentary meetings to coordinate their positions during relevant regional and international events.
The two sides lauded the relations between the UAE and Turkey, which have advanced to a new phase of cooperation and joint action, especially after the recent official visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to Turkey.
Ghobash welcomed Dr. Mustafa Sentop and his accompanying parliamentary delegation, thanking him for the visit and for the keenness to continue building ties of cooperation with the FNC.
He stated that cooperation is key in helping address the region’s challenges, noting the importance of accelerating coordination between the parliaments of the two countries by strengthening the role of friendship groups and specialist committees in encourage parliamentary visits.
The two sides noted that they are looking forward to further developing the prospects of cooperation between the two nations in the light of the recent visit made by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to Turkey.
"Since its founding by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE has been embracing the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs, strongly believing in peaceful co-existence among nations and forging peaceful solutions to all crises.
"The joint work between the UAE and Turkey will positively contribute to overcoming challenges in the region," Ghobash stressed.
Dr. Şentop expressed his gratitude to the UAE’s leadership, government and people and his happiness at the improvement in bilateral ties, which have progressed to a dynamic stage of cooperation.
He highlighted his country’s keenness to advance its relations with the UAE.
The meeting was attended by FNC member Obaid Khalfan Al Ghoul, Head of the Asian Parliamentary Friendship Group, as well as group members Aisha Saeed Al Mulla, Mohammed Issa Al Kashf, Aisha Rida Al Bairaq, Jameela Ahmed Al Muhairi, Dr. Omar Al Nuaimi, FNC Secretary- General, and Afraa Al Busti, Assistant Secretary-General for Parliamentary Communication.
It was also attended by Osman Oran, Head of the Turkish-Emirati Parliamentary Friendship Group, and several members of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
