ABU DHABI, 28th March, 2022 (WAM) -- Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, has inaugurated her country’s embassy in Abu Dhabi. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Yacoub Al Hosani, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Organisations Affairs, Jerome Walcott, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados, and Gabriel Abed, Ambassador of Barbados to the UAE.
In her keynote speech, Mottley said, "The opening of the Barbados Embassy in Abu Dhabi is the first diplomatic representation of our country in the Middle East since the establishment of relations between our countries in 1996," noting that the step highlights the importance of strengthening Barbados' diplomatic representation in the UAE and developing relations between the two countries in all fields.
For his part, Al Hosani explained that establishing the Embassy of Barbados in the UAE is a major stepping stone to strengthening relations between the two countries, noting that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will provide the embassy and its employees with all forms of assistance to facilitate its work.
Walcott indicated that the opening of the embassy would contribute to developing UAE-Barbados cooperation in various fields, underscoring the keenness of their leaderships to boost bilateral ties to serve mutual interests.
The Ambassador of Barbados stated that the opening of his country's embassy in Abu Dhabi is part of Barbados' efforts to broaden the horizons of its relations and cooperation with the UAE.
