WAM signs cooperation agreements with three Uruguayan media outlets
MONTEVIDEO, 9th May, 2022 (WAM) -- The Emirates News Agency (WAM) has signed cooperation agreements with three media outlets in the Republic of Uruguay, as part of its efforts to enhance joint cooperation in media exchange.
This came as part of a series of visits of a WAM delegation, headed by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, to the Republic of Uruguay and a number of Latin American countries.
The agreements were signed by Al Rayssi and Martin Aguirre, Director of Uruguayan leading newspaper, El Pais; Javier Olivera, Director-General of Canal 4 TV; and Gerardo Sotelo, President of SeCAN (Servicio de Comunicación Audiovisual Nacional), Medios Publicos Group.
The signing of the agreements stems from WAM's keenness to establish an advanced model of cooperation and partnership with various global media outlets, as the UAE is gearing up to host the Global Media Congress in Abu Dhabi from 15th to 17th November 2022.
Commenting on the signing, Al Rayssi said that the UAE and Uruguay have strong ties of friendship and cooperation in various fields, including media, adding that these agreements contribute to strengthening the frameworks of media cooperation and exchange, and enriching the media ecosystems in both countries.
"The Emirates News Agency is keen on expanding its network through partnerships with international media outlets, especially with Abu Dhabi preparing to host the Global Media Congress next November, which serves as a major media platform aimed at shaping the future of the regional and global media sectors, and leveraging of opportunities to build fruitful and sustainable partnerships between participating media outlets," Al Rayssi explained.
He also said that he is looking forward to the participation of Uruguayan media outlets in the global event, especially with Uruguay's remarkable track record in the media field, which spans several decades.
Based in Montevideo, Canal 4 (Channel 4), formerly known as Monte Carlo TV, is the second oldest television channel in Uruguay, with its first broadcast dating back to 1961.
El Pais is an Uruguayan newspaper, which began publication on 14th September, 1918, while Medios Publicos, Uruguay's largest media group, was founded 100 years ago, and today incorporates two television channels and 24 radio stations across the country, with a team of over 400 people.
