UAE Embassy in Washington showcases 'Contemporary Art From the UAE'
WASHINGTON, DC, 27th September, 2022 (WAM) -- The UAE Embassy in Washington is organising an art exhibition titled "While the Coffee Grounds Settle: Stories from Women in the UAE" from 22nd September to 14th October 2022.
The exhibition, which will be held at Fathom Gallery in Washington, DC and is being coordinated by the Dirwaza Curatorial Lab in Abu Dhabi, includes various artwork by 27 Emirati artists and UAE residents.
"Art has a special ability to connect diverse peoples and cultures," said Shaima Gargash, Deputy Chief of Mission at the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC. "It is a celebration of women, spaces, and fora that bring women together to reflect creativity and development in our society."
The exhibition is part of Emirati Women's Day celebrations that recognise women’s contributions to the arts and culture fields, as well as their role in strengthening social ties.
The displayed artwork reflects the diversity of styles and topics addressed by participating artists, including the artist Ghada Al-Sayegh, who uses digital technology, and Sheikha Al-Ketbi, who specialises in installation art. Also participating in the exhibition are Dr. Najat Makki and Benedict Gaimont, who specialise in abstract painting and whose artworks embody the concept of social cohesion.
"This exhibition celebrates the essential role of women as the building blocks of any nation or society. It also seeks to highlight the nature of exchange, community, and growth," added Munira Al Sayegh, founder of Dirwaza Curatorial Lab and independent curator.
The exhibition is open to the general public from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm each day, with the exception of 12th and 13th October, and admission is free.
